Boruto Chapter 59 – Knight
Summary
Our cast of characters is basically playing a waiting game right now. Everyone is trying to figure out what to do next because one wrong move could spell defeat. “Knight” opened with Kawaki still having nightmares about his childhood. The last nightmare involved Code trying to kill him when they were both children. It’s clear that Code has always been jealous of Kawaki.
Koda’s feelings made sense to me. Code is the one who believed that Ishiki was God. However, Koda’s devotion was not enough to make him extremely useful to Ishiki, as unlike him, Kawaki ended up becoming a perfect vessel. In Code’s mind, Kawaki is the Chosen One for Isshiki and it hurt him greatly. Code wanted to be the one to sacrifice himself to help resurrect Ishiki.
Since Kawaki played a role in killing Isshiki’s soul, of course Code wants him dead. But because of the deal Code made with Eida, he agreed to spare Kawaki’s life. But Naruto and Sasuke were fair. Code is adamant that he will kill Naruto with his own hands. Whether he will be able to complete such a mission or not is still up in the air.
Naruto and Sasuke lost some of their powers during the fight with Isshiki. However, even with the power drop, I liked seeing how Code still wasn’t sure if he could take them both into battle. Maybe he could beat them one on one? The scene showed how powerful the iconic ninja duo was even after being nerfed.
What Code needed were fighters he could rely on, and that’s what ‘Knight’ showed Eid gave him. It turns out that Eida is not a fighter (she only knew basic Taijutsu). In a way, it made sense to me that she wasn’t a formidable fighter. Her powers allowed her to look at everything happening in the present and in the past (up to the day she was born). She can also make people fall in love with her and do her bidding. That’s why I understood that she’s not much of a fighter.
Although Eida is happy to be on tracking duty for the Code, she has given him a powerful card to play. ‘Knight’ introduced us to a new character, a child cyborg named Daemon, who also happened to be Eida’s biological brother.

The Demon on the Back of the Code (Image: Boruto Manga issue 59 ‘Knight’)
The latest manga chapter wasted no time in showing off Daemon’s abilities. Apparently it can detect a person’s killing intent and show the end result on the opponent. When a guard tried to shoot Daemon with a blaster, it exploded right in the soldier’s face. When another soldier tried to attack Daemon, he split his skull open with his own axe. The third soldier was beheaded because he wanted to do something like that to Daemon.
While Daemon’s powers seem formidable, it made me think of the same question I had when Eida’s powers were introduced. Eida and Daemon are supposed to be cyborgs. That would mean some level of science must be involved, right? However, I can’t seem to think of any scientific explanation for Daemon’s “reflective” powers. At first I thought he was putting people under Genjutsu to make them attack him. However, it is clear that it is something else.
Eida and Daemon feel less like cyborgs and more like supernatural beings you’d see reading the Bleach manga. Maybe Amado experimented with Otsutsuki’s DNA to give his cyborgs such special powers? I have no idea.
Anyway, as of now Team Code consists of Eida and Daemon. All five villages are searching for the code. So it will be interesting to see if a team of three could defeat Naruto and Sasuke in kidnapping Boruto (to feed themselves to the Ten-Tails) and Kawaki (to start a romantic relationship with Eida. Yes, it’s very creepy).
